Business Solutions using File Replication PRO

Here are a few ideas for FRP uses from our customers:

Offsite Server Backup
Provide a cost effective offsite server backup to protect your data and ensure rapid availability in the event of a disaster.

Branch Office Sync
File Replication Pro is used by hundreds of enterprises both large and small, to create a common set of synchronized files among multiple satellite offices, regardless of the file type or operating system they reside on.
Employing real time synchronization technology, File Replication Pro automatically distributes your files and documents to remote sites ensuring that all members of your team have access to the most current versions. At the same time, File Replication Pro overcomes the challenges of efficient synchronization of large files and large sets of files by employing bit level file comparison and multi session synchronization.

Web Content Distribution

With content distribution needs becoming ever more complex due to the size and number of files constantly growing, the expectation for constant updates and the need for multi redundant servers to ensure high availability of your information, manual methods for keeping your content updated are too time consuming and often unreliable.

File Replication Pro natively supports cross-platform distribution and efficiently handles large files and large file sets, making this the ideal solution for publishing your web content. The update and publishing process can either be scheduled or, where rapid updates are necessary, performed in real time. By relying on File Replication Pro to handle these updates automatically, you are able to focus on creating the content rather than distributing it.

Whether you're publishing large files or large sets of files to your web server farm, network DMZ, or streaming media servers, File Replication Pro will handle the process efficiently and securely.

Business Partner File Sharing

File Replication Pro is specifically suited to handle the complexities of sharing sensitive files and documents, regardless of the file type or operating system they reside on. Employing 'safe' synchronization technology, including encrypted transmission protocols and password protected access, File Replication Pro securely distributes your information over the internet. At the same time, File Replication Pro overcomes the challenges of efficient distribution of large files and large sets of files by employing bit level file comparison and multi session synchronization, saving valuable time.

Whether you are sharing CAD / design specifications, contracts, images or any other documents and files with your business partners, File Replication Pro is the cost effective, rapid and safe solution
FileReplicationPro is packed
with features to support both
basic and advanced
replication and synchronization.

Native Cross Platform Support
Support for Windows, Mac OSX, Linux, Netware,
and any operating system that runs Java 1.4.
Well suited for mixed server environments.

Multiple Replication and Synchronization Job Types
For replicating files either locally or off-site, File Replication Pro supports ‘Copy’ and ‘Move’ operations, whereas synchronization is supported via ‘1-Way Mirror’ or ‘2-Way Mirror’ job types.

Real-Time, Event-Driven Replication
With our ‘Real Time File System Integration’ for both Mac OSX and Windows, File Replication Pro is informed of file events – including creation, change or delete – as they occur, triggering replication of the changes immediately. This is especially suited to environments with large numbers of files and folders, preventing the need for more CPU and time consuming methods of 'directory walks'.

Scheduling Engine
Built-in advanced scheduling options including ability to schedule the number of times and frequency a replication job runs.

Changed Files Only
EFficient algorithm will not replicate files that are identical. It will only copy over files that have changed, providing bandwidth efficiency.

Bit Level Copy
Bit-level replication technology enables File Replication Pro to copy only the changed portions of a file. This technology reduces the required bandwidth making it appealing for replication over WANs and the Internet.

LAN Auto Detection
Computers on your Local Area Network are discovered automatically, thereby streamlining your installation process.

Web based management console
The File Replication Pro Management Console is a complete web-based application providing one central point to configure and monitor all replications. An administrator can access the Management Console from any browser providing ease-of-use, portability, and a common interface. The Management Console automatically distributes any changes to all your servers.

LAN, WAN AND INTERNET
By using standard network protocols, all your servers, whether on a LAN or WAN, can communicate with each other and transfer data.

Filter folders and files
Using include/exclude statements with standard expressions or wildcards. Allows great flexibility in deciding which files or folders are replicated.

Bandwidth Throttling
Control the bandwidth allocated to replication jobs thereby ensuring available bandwidth for other mission critical network operations.

Scalability
These techniques allow continuous replication and synchronization regardless of the amount of changed data or servers that will be replicating simultaneously.

File Compression
Prior to transfer, files can be compressed using advanced compression techniques, allowing the information to reach the other nodes as quickly as possible.

Security & Encryption
Uses advanced encryption algorithms to secure the data as it is being replicated. In addition, replication nodes can be password protected to control replication access to the servers.

Network Configuration
Assures reliable functioning in complex network environment including inter/intranet networks

File Permissions
Copying and preserving the file permissions for windows and unix is supported including full NTFS descriptors for windows and full uid, and guid for unix.
FileReplicationPro 6.5.2 Released
With this release,  we are completing  a roll-out of FRP which supports 64 bit real time replication for the rest of the major Linux distributions.  This release provides improved performance and better utilization of available memory.  The 64 bit versions are of particular value to our high-volume customers who use modern 64 bit OS's on their servers.

This release also provides performance enhancements and bug fixes to our Windows and Linux 64 bit and 32 bit customers
.

We are already at work on our next release which will include compatibility with MAC 10.8.X and Windows 2012 and Windows 8.
New Features

Affected Operating Systems:  Linux
Supported Distributions:  Red Hat,  Ubuntu, Centos,  SUSE and others.
Architecture: 32 bit and 64 bit

Now in addition to our Windows and Mac products, our Linux versions (of the above distributions) feature both 64 bit Java architecture and Real Time Replication.  .

Linux platforms now use the built-in INotify file system extension to capture file system changes and report them to FRP’s replication engine.  FRP then takes immediate replication action as defined by the user.

“Mixed” configurations are supported even for real time so, for example, the user can define real time replication between a 64 bit Windows server, a 32 bit Ubuntu server and a 64 bit RHL server.

Replication Tuning enhancements:
Affected Operating Systems:  Linux and Windows
Linux Supported Distributions:  Red Hat,  Ubuntu, Centos,  SUSE and others.
Windows Versions: XP, Server 2003 - 2008, Vista, and 7
Architecture: 32 bit and 64 bit

“In real time replication, FRP “listens” to file system change events and immediately propagates them to the other server(s).  For example, when a file is added on server A, FRP immediately “senses” the event and copies the file over to server B.  In active systems, a very large number of events may occur in a short amount of time, such as when a large directory with thousands of files and nested sub-directories is added at once to the monitored directory.

This new release includes many enhancements designed to improve the performance and reliability of replication under such conditions.

Bug Fixes

Affected Operating Systems:  Linux and Windows
Linux Supported Distributions:  Red Hat,  Ubuntu, Centos,  SUSE and others.
Windows Versions: XP, Server 2003 - 2008, Vista, and 7
Architecture: 32 bit and 64 bit

Recovery from Real Time job crash - Under certain circumstances, a bug  had the potential of causing data loss on the source machine if a Real Time  job failed mid-way and the Directory Walk was automatically invoked soon thereafter.   We changed the logic to properly account for this circumstance.

Null Pointer Exception - when a missing file pointer was encountered in a disk map.  This problem may occur during real time replication when a very large number of files is affected in a very short period of time (such as when a large set of files and sub-folders is added)  This fix corrects the underlying synchronization issue, the null is handled and replication continues without interruption.
OPEN FILE MANAGER
Replicate locked, open and in-use files!

FileReplicationPro Open File Manager is designed to seamlessly provide access to locked, open and in-use files. In conjunction with FileReplicationPro, this allows for real-time backup without forcing users to exit the application.

OFM permits the reading / copying of locked or in-use files.  OFM Does NOT permit the writing of data or flles into a locked or in use folder or file.  In many cases OFM is not needed at the destination server.  The exception to this is when some open files of the destination folder may be replicated back to the source.  However in all cases,  OFM cannot be used to write INTO a locked folder or file.

Protect applications such as:

>>MSSQL
    >>Exchange
    >>Outlook
    >>Lotus Notes
    >>Oracle
    >>custom applications and any other exclusively opened or locked file

How it works

Open File Manager is a highly efficient file snapshot tool, working at the block level. By monitoring the file system when a replication begins on a locked or exclusively opened file, Open File Manager will automatically cache existing overwritten data to a temporary location, providing automatic replication without interfering with other concurrent applications that may be accessing the file.

Supported operating systems include Windows 2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7 and Windows 2000/2003/2008 server family.

Also supported are Microsoft Hyper V Machines

Open File Manager requires no configuration as it configures itself to work exclusively with File Replication Pro.

Databases

OFM and FRP cannot write into a live database or locked file on the destination server.  This is due to the fact that on the destination server an application is also making modifications to the destination file which prevents the data from both sources to be merged.  Even if the destination file is offline but has been modified by another application at the destination, the data from the source is unlikely to be written without causing some damage to data.  The destination file must exist only for the purpose of having a backup or archive copy of the original file on the source.

When replicating most databases you will need use the FRP scripting utility to issue command to place them into a state ready for replication.   This flushes the cache and permits the replicated database copy to be mounted without warnings.   A preferred method for doing this is to write a script that is called by FRP to run the live backup utility of SQL server to a temp folder and then replicate the backup to the destination.

In some cases, a database can run for quite some time without causing an update to the time stamp or ACL,  this may create a situation where the administrator who wants more frequent replication of the DB will have to intervene with a script as noted above to force the replication to be more frequent.  The following article explains how FRP handles File change detection and replication methods.

Virtual Machines Hyper-V and other VMs
A Hyper-V, VMware or other VMs are replicated much the same as a database is,  with OFM and the use of a "quiet command" to the VM prior to replication. This leaves the VM online but quiet for a brief moment while a snapshot of it's present state is taken for replication.
