Real-time Protection with Ad-Watch

Ad-Watch is the real time monitor included in the Norman Ad-Aware SE Professional. Ad-Watch goes beyond what other security suites offer by adding a proactive layer of protection to your system. It runs silently in the background, watching for Malware/parasites that try to install on or modify your system.

While Norman Ad-Aware SE detects and cleans your system from known Malware and advertising parasites, Ad-Watch goes even further by catching these programs before they can integrate into your system.

You can lock the start-up sections of your registry, block possible and actual browser hijack attempts, block suspicious processes, lock executable file associations, block malicious cookies, block pop-ups, and using the all new CSI technology it can protect you from unknown variants as well.

This version of Ad-Watch includes a site manager where you can edit the included pop-up blacklist. It also includes a new rule editor that allows you to configure Ad-Watch to pre-allow changes to the registry.

Support network installation

Norman Ad-Aware Professional version supports network distribution with the use of tools like MSI and SMS. To ensure that machines using Norman Ad-Aware in the network are updated, it can be configured to get updated from a central update server. It has mapped and UNC share support as well as the ability to use corporate native push technology, login scripts etc.

Process Browsing with Process-Watch

Norman Ad-Aware SE Professional Edition comes with Process-Watch, a powerful process viewer/manager. It allows browsing, scanning, and termination of running processes (and their associated modules), as well as using installed extensions to further analyze a running process or module.

Process-Watch shows you a snapshot of all the running processes and their associated modules at the time Process-Watch is launched.

Process-Watch displays two lists of information, the currently running processes in the system and a module list showing the modules the selected process has loaded into memory.

Process-Watch allows you to quickly terminate any running process or unload a module. You can scan the processes to see if there are any known offending processes running and terminate them if necessary. You can also create a Hexdump of the process memory or dump the process memory to disk.

On-Demand scan

Norman Ad-Aware SE Professional Edition also includes an on-demand scanner which scans your system for any security threats related to Spyware and Adware. The scanner can be configured according to user preference. Norman have made a default configuration that performs an in depth scan of the system, this scan can be set to run at start-up, ensuring that you have clean system every time you start.
 

Pop-up blocker

The popup blocking is designed to be user configurable and sites can easily be added to or removed from the sites list. Norman Ad-Aware is supplied with an extensive “site black list" which will be installed during installation. You can also create a custom sites file in Notepad. The file should contain one partial or full domain name per line.

Internet update of definition files

Keeping the product updated is a must in order to stay protected against Spyware. To make this task as trivial as possible Norman Ad-Aware definition files are updatable over the Internet, by just clicking a button. The definition files are then downloaded and installed without the need for user intervention.

Rules creator for pre-defined blocking exclusions

By defining rules the user can configure Ad-Watch to pre-allow changes to the registry. You can set up rules to allow certain registry keys and/or registry values to be changed.

Proactive Code Sequence Identification technology

Norman Ad-Aware uses a new Code Sequence Identification technology to identify new and unknown variants of known targets. This technology works proactively and is designed to detect unknown treats based on behavior.

Statistics

After a scan is performed you will be given detailed statistics of the scan result. It includes the number of critical incidents (Spyware) detected, groups of incidents by their Spyware family names, total detected this scan and the overall total detected since the statistics module was last reset. Also provided is a website link to a detailed description of the different Spyware detected and the ability to export the log file as well as other more in-depth features.
