In the June edition of
Virus Bulletin magazine Norman ASA has been awarded the
Virus Bulletin (VB) 100% test for Norman Virus Control
for Windows XP. This is the 23th award Norman has
received so far for its solutions.
The criterion for VB 100% is to discover all viruses
that are identified on the international virus list “In
The Wild", which is hosted by http://www.wildlist.org.
Virus experts and analysts from all around the world
keep this list updated on a monthly basis with viruses
and worms, which are constantly active.
In this edition of Virus Bulletin’s “In the Wild" test,
there were remarkably high numbers of new viruses. The
average level of new viruses per month will vary from
20-30. However, on this occasion there were in total 60
new viruses. The growth in number is a result of recent
virus outbursts on the Internet. The W32/Bagle and W32/Netsky
attacks affected the list in particular, as these are
the type of viruses that comes in different shapes and
forms. The new W32/MyDoom, W32/Dumaru and W32/Mimail
also caused the list to be longer than normal.
“We are especially proud to succeed in these types of
tests at a time where we see such high activity of
viruses and worms. It is in times like this we get
positive feedback for our technology and organisation,
as the award clearly proves. The Norman Sandbox in
particular, has proven to be a very good investment for
our customers, where more than two in three of all the
new viruses will be discovered before the definition
files are distributed, but also the fact that our
traditional technology is up-to-date, as the VB100%
verifies, is particularly satisfying" announces Steinar
Wigtil (head of development).
